How much pain if we make Version field in Db longer?

We are using one the two "Extra" bug fields to store the name of the customer that caused the case to be entered (which of our customers complained about the bug or missing feature in our software).

Now, it turns out, we sometimes need to store more than one customer per case. Sometimes more than one customer complains about the same thing, and we'd like to capture and save that info in the Customer field. We can do it simply as a concatenation of multiple customer names - nothing fancy; however, the extra bug field we're using has a 40 character limit (the other one is 80, but even that might not be enough).

Up until now, our FogBugz modifications have been to the ASP pages only. How painful will it be for us if we start modifying database stuff like the length of the extra bug fields?

That should be fine.  As long as you are making the column longer I don't see a problem... (the asp code might enforce the size also, so there may be a code mod also)
