As I understand it, the lack of automatic email notifications in various situations is a conscious choice by the designer(s) of Fogbugz to minimize the amount of email. From the number of complaints and confusion registered here about this issue, I suggest this design point be revisited. Customers are asking for at least the option to turn on automated email notifications in the following situations:
1. Changes to discussion topics in which a user has participated.
2. Changes to cases which the user has created or edited. (We would especially like users to be notified automatically when we edit the cases they create.)
Perhaps the designer(s)' seeming paternalistic bent can be mollified if the options are turned off by default.
