Access to GROUPS Table

A while back I asked how we could retreive data out of the hosted version of the Projects database, so we could interface with some internal billing and project tracking systems.

That's working fine.  NOW I need to be able to retrieve data out of the GROUPS table, and that doesn't appear to be in the same place as the Projects database.

We are trying to use the Project ID on cases to validate the Client ID, which is in Groups in our configuration. Specifically, we think we need the sName value out of the Groups table.

How does one talk to this database?

Are you on FogBugz On Demand?  I need a bit more info about your current setup to give a good answer.

Hi Doug,

We don't provide direct access to the databases for On Demand.  I couldn't find your previous message about retrieving info about Project, so I'm not sure what you've already accomplished.  Can you explain what how you're accessing the database currently?

We're using the API to send credentials and retrieve information on our cases.  Today we're testing API ability to send data into cases.

For data that comes from outside of the system, we still need to be able to validate key values, like the Group ID, which corresponds to our customer number.

I think you want to look into the listProjects command.  It will return a list of Projects and the associated group, including the group name.

I think "Group" might mean one thing to you and another to us.  Is this a custom field?

They are not accessible via the API currently.

By Groups, I mean the thing that is referred to as Groups on the FB Admin screen.

Since FB doesn't recognize Customers or Clients as an allowed entity that Projects would be associated with, we define a Group for each Client, and then we associate individual projects or work areas for each client with the Group ID that is for the client.

I would assume this is common practice, but let me know if I'm doing something Bizarro.

You can't get much about the project's group from the API, but you can get ixGroup and sGroup, which is the name you're looking for.  Use the cmd=listProjects and you should get the data you need.
