Improving "Only show field when it has a value"

The ability to hide less frequently used fields is nice. However, It seems odd that the setting jumps back to "always show" whenever I use the "add fields" list, even once.

Example: I very rarely use the field "version" so I've set it to be hidden when empty. If I want to enter a case with version information *just once*, I end up having to teach the field to stay hidden on other new cases all over again.

My suggestion: make the field stay hidden when empty until the user specifically changes the option to "always show".

I have a case open to allow administration of these values for all users. That would allow an admin to have all users start out with "only show when there is a value" for certain fields.

Thanks for your reply. Not sure if that feature would be necessary in general, but anyway, I don't think it would solve our problem.

The problem is that the visibility settings for a single user kind of creep back to "always show" for all fields, over time.

We think the visibility setting should not be affected by adding a field from the Add Fields list while editing. Rather, the setting should only change when specifically told to, using the little menu. :-)
